ProtxL  is a manufacturer and supplier of Oil and Fuel Maintenance Systems (Patent Pending) that has been proven by industry over several years to allow annual oil change intervals in petrol and diesel engines. Conventionally, engine oil is changed when its condition has deteriorated to an unacceptable condition and cannot remain in the system. This occurs because standard spin-on and centrifugal oil filters supplied with an engine do not have the design performance capability to remove sludge and filter 1 to 3 micron.

All of industry wants to extend oil change intervals and increase machine availability, but unless the TBN (Total Base Number) of the oil is maintained and soot levels are kept at an acceptable level, oil change intervals cannot be extended.

Doctor Sherwood quoted in the Australian Mining Monthly in the October 2001 Issue that; - "The wear of lubricated machinery is almost totally determined by the amount of contamination in the lubricant. Improving the cleanliness of lubricants can produce spectacular improvements in the service life of equipment and cost savings can be very significant".

When the ProtxL oil maintenance system is utilized, the practice of using oil purchased on price that is also manufactured to a price, should be replaced with the use of a premium quality oil. By following the ProtxL Program, the Client can achieve an annual oil change backed by oil analysis. The ProtxL Client Base that has installed the systems, are now achieving 3500 - 5,500 hours annually on main engines and auxiliaries. This has now been the practice the MG Kailis fleet of 69 trawlers for 6 years resulting in up to 90% reduction in the use of oil and standard OEM spin-on filter elements.

The ProtxL Client Base includes Government Departments such as Western Power, Department of Fisheries, MTT Ferries, and the Dept of Defence have purchased for evaluation. Our bigger Clients are Marine, Fishing and Power Generation. In  engines such as a Cummins KTA 50 1200HP with mineral oil capacities of 400 litres, the oil change has been extended from 500 hours to 1,500 hours resulting with a 45% net cost saving for filters and oil  We see a universal application for all petrol and diesel engines in both fixed and mobile applications as well as filtering transformer oil and bulk diesel and new and used oils. Our systems also can be fitted to hydraulics, gearboxes and any system using oil or fuel.

As the USA and EEC-Environmental Protection Legislation now drive engine design, due to the 2002 - 2003 exhaust standards, some OEM's are fitting exhaust recirculation devices and are retarding the timing of engines. This results in higher operating temperatures, increased oxidation, acidation, and a seventeen- percent increase in carbon production. Unless the OEM's solve these problems, the engines will either have increased wear, or a reduced oil change interval which will reduce machine availability.

Increasingly Environmental Legislation and International Treaties are affecting industry for example Italian Legislation determines that the new oil and new oil filters can not be sold unless the used oil and oil filters are returned firstly at the point of sale. ISO 14000 requires large EEC corporations to be compliant. This has primed the market for the ProtxL Oil Maintenance System by imposing a tremendous inconvenience and expense on industry.

ProtxL can reduce the use of engine oil by up to 90% and improve exhaust emissions while reducing environmental pollution. This for the benefit of mankind can conserve limited oil reserves that OPEC say will run out in 80 years, and USA and Australia will be used by 25 years. The environmental problem is the disposal of waste oil, that presently is subsidized by the tax payer for example, in England the cost is130 pounds per ton. For all the oil imported into Australia, only 30% is accounted for in recycling much of the balance is pollution..  do not believe the oil companies will be too concerned as engine oil is a small part of their business and ProtxL can reduce their contingent liabilities.
